How to Use Threads App

Threads is a new app from Instagram that is designed for real-time, public conversations. It was launched on July 5, 2023, and is available for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play online store in over 100 countries.


Threads is a companion app to Instagram, and it uses your existing Instagram username and verification to log in. Your Instagram profile picture and bio will also carry over to Threads, but you can customize your profile specifically for Threads.

The main purpose of Threads is to allow you to share text updates and join public conversations with your close friends. Posts on Threads are limited to 500 characters, but you can also include links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length.

Threads also includes a few other features that are designed to make it a more intimate and personal experience than Instagram. For example, you can see who has read your posts, and you can choose to have your posts disappear after 24 hours.

Here are the steps on how to use Threads app:

  1. Download the Threads app from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Open the app and log in with your Instagram username and password.
  3. If you're not already following anyone on Threads, you'll be prompted to follow some of your Instagram friends.
  4. To start a new thread, tap the Compose Thread icon in the bottom center of the screen.
  5. Type your message and tap Post.
  6. To add a photo or video to your thread, tap the Paperclip icon and select the media you want to add.
  7. To see who has read your posts, tap the Eye icon next to a post.
  8. To have your posts disappear after 24 hours, tap the Timer icon next to a post and select 24 Hours.
